Flapless Implant Surgery

If periodontal pockets are not treated, tissue destruction and bone resorption will continue, which will cause tooth mobility and eventually its loss

Implant placement without flap is one of the advance methods for placement of dental implants. To place dental implants without flap, there are many preparation steps that should be followed carefully and precisely due to the high risk of this procedure (named: blind surgery).
Computerized tomography (CT) scan should be done for the jaw, three dimensional model is done form this CT which can be used to fabricate surgical template to guide the implant surgeon for accurate placement of implants.
This method cannot be used in case of bone resorption where the surgeon have to do bone graft, sinus lift or when he need to remove bone.

Flapless implant surgery without doing all pre-surgical investigations and steps may cause serious problems like injury of an artery due to drilling outside the bone causing internal hemorrhage which may lead to death.
Unfortunately, many dentists using this method for placing implants (and use it for advertisements) without doing pre-surgical steps due to lack of experience, lack of knowledge (they don’t know what are the possible complication of this surgery), and lack of technology (three dimensional model form CT is available in USA and Europe only).
I advise all implant patients who would like to do dental implants using this technique to make sure all previous preparation steps are done properly, otherwise implant placement with surgical flap is a better choice.

This technology is not available in more than 97% of dental clinics in Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries.

If bone graft is needed, surgical flap should be done.
