Free gingival graft

In this surgery, the graft is superficial tissue harvested from the palate and sutured to the area that has the recession. This technique is used in case of no and in areas attached gingiva and where esthetics is not important, because the color of the healed graft is lighter than adjacent tissue. The success rate of this surgery is 99% if done properly. After surgery, a dressing should be placed on the palate for 2 to 5 days to protect it during healing.

For best results in severe recession, it is better to do this technique in two steps, as follows:

Severe recession in lower central incisor

The recipient site was prepared to receive the graft

The graft is harvested from the palate

The graft is sutured in place

After 8 weeks of healing, now we can do the second surgery (coronally positioned flap) to cover the remaining exposed root
